Oils for Emotional Support
How are you feeling today? Everyone experiences different types of emotions daily such as happiness, anger, sadness, joy, love, gratitude… There are times when we feel overwhelmed by our emotions and fear losing control over our bodies. How many of us have been taught how to manage our emotions? Emotions show us how the energy travels through our body while each of them can feel a little different. Only through sitting with our emotions and fully feeling them can we start to understand what they try to tell us, and that is where the process of healing begins…
How do oils support our emotions?
When you feel an emotion try to ask yourself: Does it help me to go forward or does it hold me back? Release an emotion that holds you back and let it dissolve. Emotions are our teachers, as they will always guide us back to love. To release an emotion can be sometimes really hard because we often tend to hold onto it. Therefore, essential oils help to guide our emotions back to balance as the array of chemicals they hold interferes with our body’s chemistry. They can stimulate the emotional part of the brain through the scent. While smelling an oil also triggers memories they’re able to remind us of moments in time that made us feel a certain way. Some essential oils will be more sedating, while others are more uplifting. Some work more on regulating the stress response, to facilitate healing in the body, and give us that vital feeling of relaxation.
Which essential oil to use for my emotion?
A variety of essential oils are used for specific emotions to help us feel well in our bodies. Bergamot is used to bring the feelings of self-love and acceptance, as by bringing optimism to life, it takes away feelings of despair and low self-esteem. The oil of Truth and Universal guidance, Frankincense, is one of the most powerful oils for emotional healing. It invites us to bring light and truth to our experiences and reminds us that we are loved and protected. Do you currently suffer from a broken heart? Try to inhale Geranium oil that softens anger, encourages emotional love, honesty and forgiveness while allowing our energy to move freely in the heart area again. To feel fresh and joyful, it is suggested to use peppermint oil that reminds us to connect to the present moment and find joy within the moment. Whichever emotion you are experiencing, essential oils can guide you through the emotional process and remind you that there is love to come.
Now, get into a comfortable sitting position and close your eyes. Let your emotions move freely through your body, and observe without judgement. How are you feeling?
